The house has a large garden, and beyond that a little field which overlooks fields as far as the eye can see. There are 4 bedrooms, an office and two bathrooms upstairs, and downstairs a large living room, a dining room and a large farmhouse kitchen with all facilities including dishwasher. We also have another downstairs family room which can be used as a further living room or another bedroom. There is also a 3rd toilet downstairs. It would be easy for as many as 10 to stay (more if you sleep on the sofabed in the living room or use the tent in the garden!). We have plenty of TVs, CD, video and DVD player and a new computer with Broadband ADSL, an exercise bike, a punch bag, and bicycles to go cycling locally - or further afield if you put them on the car’s bike rack. Most of the house was built around 1830 and it has several outbuildings where we keep the BBQ, the ride on mower, our tools, the larger of our 2 freezers etc etc.
The garden and field has lots of space to play Frisbee and similar games. There are two patio areas with outside tables and chairs and a pond. We have a low maintenance cat and also chickens in our little field which lay fresh eggs every day. We can get someone else to feed and water them if you don’t want to. There is room for plenty of parking and we have 2 cars. We would be happy to loan the larger one which is a Ford Mondeo – a station wagon big enough for 5 and luggage. |

The house is in the middle of the small village of Sharnford in Leicestershire which has 2 pubs (with food), a garage and a little shop, and is within 25 minutes of 2 city centres. From Sharnford you can drive to Shakespeare’s Stratford, Warwick (castle), Birmingham (England’s stunning second city), and Nottingham all in 45 minutes. Oxford is less than one and a half hours drive and Cambridge a little more. You can reach some of the most beautiful countryside in England in between 1 and 2 hours such as the Cotswolds or the Derbyshire Peaks or Dales. You can drive in one and a half hours to park on the edge of north London to then travel into the centre via a short train ride. Manchester, Liverpool, Bath and York are 2.5 hours maximum by car.
The centre of Leicester, our nearest city, is less than 25 minutes away. The National Space Centre is here and it is one of the most multicultural cities in England with 2 universities and masses of good restaurants and shops. On the door step there is some attractive countryside for walking, and several canals are very nearby. There is a large out of town shopping centre with a very large Marks and Spencers, Borders, supermarkets etc 10 minutes from the house. |
